הסרט "DOWN WITH LOVE" (כלומר, "די לאהבה!" , או כמו שקראו לו בארץ – "לגמור עם האהבה") הוא קומדיה רומנטית קלילה וחביבה מלפני כשני עשורים.
אבל מה שמעניין בסרט הזה, שהוא גם ניסוי מעניין בקולנוע – שיחזור של ז'אנר מת לחלוטין:
"דאון ויז לאב" נוצר בסגנון הספייס אייג' – תת ז'אנר בתרבות הקלה של שנות ה-50/60, שהוא בעצם שפה ויזואלית, קולנועית ומוזיקלית, אך גם סוג של זרם תודעה
המזוהה עם חיים קלילים, אופטימיים, חסרי דאגות אמיתיות. השפה הקולנועית של הספייס אייג' , שבה משתמש הסרט, מתכתבת עם עולם הקומיקס מבחינת עריכה,
עיצוב ומשחק.
הספייס אייג' היה מעין תת זרם תרבותי פופולארי שזוהה עם פאן, חוסר דאגות, בשנים שבהן ארה"ב הוטרדה בעיקר בנושאי בניית חלליות והסיכוי להגיע לכוכבים
רחוקים (מכאן שורש המונח). ההווי הזה ניכר בשפה העיצובית והאסתטיקה של אותה תקופה, בכל מה שקשור לתרבות קלה – קומדיות, פרסומות, מגזינים.
באותו זמן נוצרה גם שפה מוזיקלית מקבילה – לאונג' מיוזיק, המוכרת גם כ"ספייס אייג' פופ", והיא הסאונד של עולם הספייס אייג'
(פסקול הסרט "דאון וויז לאב" משחזר בצורה מדוייקת להפליא את מוזיקת הספייס אייג' פופ). הוייב הכללי של הספייס אייג' – רומנטיקה, עירוניות, הומור, שיק,
צבעוניות, אופטימיות ותמימות קיצונית, וכל אלה משולבים לעתים עם אזכורים קלילים של החלל, הכוכבים והרובוטים, מושא הפנטזיה המרכזי של התקופה.
לקראת סוף שנות ה-70 הספייס אייג' הלך ודעך, ונעלם לחלוטין בשנות ב-80. עם השנים נוצר כנראה געגוע, ויצאו לא מעט אוספי ספייס אייג' פופ וגם אלבומים
חדשים לגמרי בסגנון, שקורצים לתקופה ההיא, עם עטיפות מעוצבות בהתאם. אבל "דאון וויז לאב" היה די תקדימי בעצם היותו סרט קולנוע שלם שמדבר בשפה הזו
בצורה מדוייקת כל כך, מבלי שיחרוג ממנה לרגע.
