Shamhat<\/span><\/strong> (or Šamhat<\/strong>, also called Shamkat in the old babylonian version of "Gilgamesh")[<\/font><\/a> <\/sup>is the name of a female character who appears in Tablets I\/and II of the Epic of Gilgamesh<\/font><\/a>-(and later in Tablet VII<\/span> (\u05e5<\/span><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n <\/span>Shamhat plays the integral role in Tablet I, of taming the wild man <\/font><\/font>Enkidu<\/font><\/a>, who was created by the gods as the rival to the mighty <\/font>Gilgamesh<\/font><\/a>. The texts attribute her with "<\/font>kuzbu<\/font><\/a>", or sexual attractiveness. She uses this attractiveness to tempt Enkidu from the wild, and his 'wildness', civilizing him through continued <\/font>sexual intercourse<\/font><\/a>. <\/span><\/span> <\/span> <\/span><\/span> <\/span>Shamhat persuades him to follow her and join the civilized world. <\/span> <\/span>with <\/font>Humbaba<\/font><\/a>.)<\/font><\/font><\/span><\/p>\n Shamhat's name is a feminine form of the <\/font>Akkadian<\/font><\/a> adjective "šamhu", which comes from the verb "šam\u0101hu", which can be translated into English as "to be magnificent".[3]<\/font><\/a><\/sup> The meaning of Shamhat's
